Triple Smoke | Corsair Artisan Distillery

I actually found and tried the Corsair Artisan Distillery’s “Triple Smoke” that I had seen in an article of The Whisky Advocate (I think!).  It goes for $50, which seems reasonable. More after the jump!

A Scotch Tasting Event Assistant? Tell Me More!

February 11th, 2012 1 comment

Don’t mind if I do. It seems as though one of the neater tips I received recently was in regard in to a sweet new website that does a lot of the work for you behind hosting your own blind whisky tasting! I was skeptical, but it is rather awesome! Snooty? Yes. Very. But how cool!

They say “install” on your iPad, but honestly it is just a very cool web app…

Scotch in a Can. Uhhh?

January 11th, 2012 3 comments

Common. This just makes me overly curious to the point where I feel a little queezy. I almost have to get a hand on one of these things just to taste what kind of damage it is doing to the industry.

Seriously. Scotch in a Can.

Money to Burn? Japan’s most expensive single malt “Yamazaki 50-Year-Old” goes on sale

Yamazaki 50 Year Old

Yamazaki 50 Year Old

Japan is generally not known to the whisk(e)y mainstream as a main player in the quality echelons as Kentucky Bourbon and Scotch Whisky. But let me tell you now, the most interesting comments that came from my friends after the Whisky Extravaganza came from the Japanese table featuring Yamazaki and Hibiki.

Back in 1961, someone stashed a barrel (or more) of the company’s production from that year in  a locked off area (presumably) and a tag that says “INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Do not open until 2011 for a bottling.
  2. Place it in your spaceship-car
  3. Float it via tractor beam to a local retailer
  4. Reap the amazing wealth derived from an astronomical price!”

Well the spaceship and tractor beams didn’t happen and the price can’t possibly be astronomical compared to what I’m sure what they it would be 50 years later, but they bottled 150 bottles of the stuff for sale on the ultra-collectible and I-have-too-much-money-to-burn .

Goodness gracious, they are selling it for Read more…

Review: Laphroaig Triple Wood

Laphroiag Triple Wood

Laphroiag Triple Wood

The Laphroaig Triple Wood was quite the find for my friends and I. We had read that it was a duty-free only experience that was unattainable for those of us not traveling to Europe every other week.

Upon our arrival back to the states and a quick tasting later, we found disappointment in the bottle. We brought it back out about a month or two later for a revisit and a fresh start. What we found took us by surprise!

Johnnie Walker’s Bar Design Overkill… That ROCKS

October 5th, 2011 No comments

The Porche of Bars

You have to see this thing to believe it. It is a bar. It opens like a DeLorian. It looks as though finger prints would stick to it and require special tools to wipe those fingerprints clean. It also takes a limitless credit card to buy.
